Level 1 - Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor

KAA 101 – Ayurvedic Foundations (Tarka Sankhya and Sharir)

The Ayurvedic Foundations course introduces students to the basic concepts of Ayurveda, including its philosophical origins, the five elements, three governing energies and twenty qualities that comprise all living things. Ayurvedic Foundations also provides an introduction to the three qualities of consciousness and their role in the process of creation.

KAA 102 – Ayurvedic Physiology (Dosha Dhatu Mala Vidnyan)

Physiology extends the basic information provided by Foundations into the physiological structures of the body, revealing the five sub-energies of the three biological humours, seven physical structures and three waste processes. Physiology also provides an in-depth exploration of individual constitution and simple tools to accurately identify it in every person you meet.

KAA 103 – Ayurvedic Psychology (Manasa Shastra)

Psychology builds even further on the two prior topics to provide insight into the illuminating principle of the physical world: The mind and the subtle body. Each of the mental qualities is explored in depth, along with the various states of mind, mental illusions or sheaths, energetic bodies, energy centers or Chakras and subtle energies. Psychology also provides practical tools to create psychological balance, strengthen the life force and begin to live more actively in the present moment.

KAA 104 – Ayurvedic Nutrition & Cooking (Ahara Vigyan)

Nutrition takes the information taught in the prior courses and begins the healing process with our food or nutrition. We are introduced to the unique concept of Agni, or the digestive fire, as well as the six tastes and their effect on the body. This class also provides students with the qualities, elements and energetic properties of over 150 fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, nuts, seeds, oils, animal products and sweeteners. Additionally, Nutrition discusses the importance of the five senses in the nutritional experience and describes over 35 well-loved Ayurvedic recipes with an interactive classroom cooking demonstration.

KAA 105 – Ayurvedic Prevention Science (Swastha Vritta)

Prevention carries the physiological and psychological foundation of the first part of the program into our environment to explain the energetic and elemental operation in the world around us. Prevention also provides detailed daily, nightly and seasonal routines tailored to the seasons, life cycles and phases of the day that will boost your immunity and increase vitality

KAA 106 – Ayurvedic Herbology (Dravya Guna Shastra)

Herbology extends Nutrition into the realm of therapeutic herbs. Comprehensive analysis of most modern and traditional herbs as well as the concepts of taste, potency, post-digestive effect, their qualities and effects on the body and how they can dramatically benefit your health.

KAA 107 – Yoga Therapy (Yoga Vigyan)

Yoga therapy describes several practices to bring the physical body into total alignment. Topics covered in-depth include postures to balance each body constitution, the science of breathing and mantra. The student will learn a comprehensive approach to the science of Yoga including its many branches and modalities.

KAA 108 – Introduction to Ayurvedic Bodywork (Pancha Karma)

Bodywork goes beyond the discipline of Yoga to provide a host of healing therapies that nourish the body and nurture the mind and spirit. These practices include Ayurvedic head, foot and body massage, sound therapies and aromatherapy. Bodywork identifies the different energy points and channels of the body and how their stimulation leads to healing and a host of health benefits. This class also describes how to prepare several therapeutic oil and herbal decoctions using ingredients from your own home.

KAA 109 – Disease Pathology (Roga Nidan)

Disease Pathology will describe how diseases form and progress. Topics will include:

  1. The Ayurvedic energies and structures (Dosha, Dhatu, Mala) and their role in the disease process.
  2. Simple ways to identify warning signs long before they become full-blown symptoms.
  3. How to analyze the various systems and structures of the body and identify potential warning signs: Tongue, pulse and mala diagnosis.
  4. In-depth examination of case studies.

KAA 110 – Disease Management (Kaya Chikitsa)

Disease Management will describe how to address various disease manifestations and how to prevent their progression.  Topics will include:

  1. The Ayurvedic energies and structures (Dosha, Dhatu, Mala) and their role in various etio-pathogenesis. The evolution of diseases through various dosha stages reaching the final degenerative phase.
  2. Simple ways to identify warning signs long before they become full-blown symptoms and methods of arresting the disease progression.
  3. Mapping of various stages of etio-pathogenesis to arrive at a treatment protocol.
  4. Tools and techniques including simple herbal treatments and dietary & lifestyle changes to restore and maintain equilibrium.
  5. Various methodologies involved in Palliative (Shamana) and Purification (Shodhana) treatments.

KAA 111 – Review, Clinical Management

Clinical Management teaches each student how to build and run a professional business practice using the principles taught throughout the program. This class also investigates Ayurveda’s application in modern times and how this science applies to the business model. Clinical intake forms, spreadsheets and business proposals are all provided in this comprehensive final course.

Level 2 - Ayurvedic Wellness Practitioner

KAA 201 – Advanced Physiology & Other Topics (Dosha Dhatu Mala Vigyan, Agni, Srotas, Nidan Panchak, Samprapti Vigyan)

In-depth discussion of doshas, subdoshas, dhatus, malas, agni, dhatu agni and srotas. Greater emphasis on srotas, kala and marmas; Definition of health and disease according to Ayurveda; The five tools of disease identification: Nidan, Purvaroop, Roopa, Upashaya, Samprapti; The six stages of the disease process: Sanchaya, Prakopa, Prasara, Sthanasamshraya, Vyakti, Bheda; Signs of Dhatu and Srota Dushti.

KAA 202 – Client Examination (Rogi Pariksha)

Detailed coverage of threefold client examination: Darshana, Sparshana, and Prashana; Eightfold clinical evaluation using pulse, tongue, sound, touch, physical stature, vision and examination of malas.

KAA 203 – Advanced Herbology (Dravya Guna Rasa Shastra and Oushadhi Nirman)

Ayurvedic energetics, actions, uses and preparations of over thirty important herbs; Rasa Shastra; Popular Ayurvedic formulas and their clinical application: Pills, powders, oils, ghees, jams and many others, as well as their dosage, times of administration and anupanas; PThe preparation ofdecoctions, herbal oils, ghees, pastes, poultices and many other Ayurvedic formulations.

KAA 204 – Ayurvedic Detoxification and Marma Therapy (Panchakarma)

Hands-on; Detailed theory of Panchakarma; Giving and receiving abhyanga, kati basti, and other Keralaeeya therapies. Detailed coverage of important Marmas and Marma therapy.

KAA 205 – Advanced Vedic Astrology (Jyotish)

The nature and qualities of the nine planets, twelve zodiac signs and twenty-seven constellations as well as their significance; Different diseases and their correlation with the planets; Mahadashas (major periods), Antardashas (minor periods); Various gemstones and their proper usage; Preventive astrology; Yagyas; Mantras for the different planets; How to read a horoscope.

KAA 206 – Herbology, Disease Pathology & Management I (Dosha Dhatu Mala Vigyan, Roga Nidan & Kayachikitsa I)

Ayurvedic etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms and signs of digestive diseases such as GERD, acid reflex, ulcers, diarrhea, IBS, hepatitis, fatty liver, ulcerative colitis, gallbladder stones, high cholesterol, as well as anemia, thyroid problems, herbal treatments, dietary management and lifestyle changes.

KAA 207 – Herbology, Disease Pathology & Management II(Dosha Dhatu Mala Vigyan, Roga Nidan & Kayachikitsa II)

Ayurvedic etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms & signs of asthma, bronchitis, chronic cough, migraine, hypertension, chronic heart diseases, varicose veins, diabetes, as well as rosacea, acne, psoriasis, pigmentations, aging signs, detailed herbal treatments, dietary management and lifestyle changes.

KAA 208 – Herbology, Disease Pathology & Management III (Dosha Dhatu Mala Vigyan, Roga Nidan & Kayachikitsa III)

Ayurvedic etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms & signs of arthritis, osteoporosis, sciatica, multiple sclerosis, fibromyelgia, low back pain, urinary stones, UTI, amenorrhea, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, PMS, menopause, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, yeast infection, female infertility, their Shodhana & detailed herbal treatments, dietary management and lifestyle changes.

KAA 209 – Herbology, Disease Pathology & Management IV (Dosha Dhatu Mala Vigyan, Roga Nidan & Kayachikitsa IV)

­Ayurvedic etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms & signs of depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, sleep disorders, autism, ADHD, peripheral neuralgia, as well as obesity, enlargement of prostate, male infertility, ED, detailed herbal treatments, dietary management and lifestyle changes.

KAA 210A & 210B – Internship

Students will evaluate a minimum of 12 new clients and 20 follow-ups in the following areas: Potential treatments, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, Ayurvedic herbal formula recommendations, Pranayama & Meditation techniques, daily routines and seasonal changes.

KAA 211 – Trip to India

Receiving and learning Panchakarma therapies; Additional studies in eye diseases (Netra Vigyan); Prenatal management (Garbha Vigyan); Current Ayurvedic research in India; Visitations to Ayurvedic Hospitals and Pharmacies; Rounds with the Doctors; Client evaluations; Cultural programs.
